What are your office timings? Mine is between 0900 and 1730. All of us here (in my office) are sure about when we can leave; everyone! Only a few of us know, the bunch of eternal absolute losers, when we are supposed to come in. Only we, the desolate few, know that we are supposed to start working at 0900; not wake up at 0900, not start from home at 0900, not park my car 0900 or catch up with a gush of fresh air at 0900 (read as: smoke)! We never seem to have this on-time concept,‘ somehow-around’ seems to be the order of the day.
We next play against the Stallions at 0530 hrs next Sunday!
This is what I told my team after our match last week. I couldn’t believe what I just said, cos I had actually announced a time that was a good 3.5 hours before the match, one full week in advance. And guess what happens, 4 of us wait for the other 9 to come in at 0845 hours the next week. We were frantically taking turns and calling them, sometime from our phones and sometimes from the opponents’ phones –lest they weren’t picking up cos its just us guys calling them. 7of them meander in by 0925 and without anyone to even carry water bottles we started the match – half an hour after we should have actually started. Talk about ‘just in time’ to these guys and they would challenge Toyota and beat them while they are at it!
After a result that we shan’t be discussing here, we decided to head to a watering hole. All of us were extremely tired after resting well during the match and were extremely thirsty and hungry – it was between the evening snack and supper time! 2 of these dudes had to go and attend something urgent, pressing and fatally important. We requested them to come in ASAP (!!!) and they said they would be back in a jiffy(!!!). So much for a sense of time, that they came right when we were searching for our wallets to take our tabs. One of the new entrants announced that he would pay for the guy that waits till he ordered and finished his drinks and all of us offered and made him repent the statement.
An old Japanese gentleman used to play tennis with us. While we kids are supposed to start at 0600, he normally (strictly every single day) walks in with his wide grin and a ‘Hullo Hullo’ at 0620 after his customary walk and stretches. One particular day, the marker was late and the court was locked when we went it and at 0620 the Hullo comes in. In one wild swing, pulled his mobile out, called the coach and asked when the marker would reach. He then disconnected the line and exclaimed, ‘Am going for a jog, see you guys in half an hour’. I just caught up with him within the next 120 meters and asked him what the coach said and he said that the coach actually went ‘2 minutes sir’ and he knew what 2 minutes Indian Standard Time was. Face-palm moment!
Coming soon…
